We all know that winters can be pretty harsh, especially in Montana. But if you can brave the cold, they actually can be some of the most gorgeous weddings. And it turns out there’s actually a lot more upside to having a winter wedding than just it looking pretty. This blog will give you the pros and cons to winter weddings so you can know if it’s right for you!
If a snowstorm comes in, road conditions can get pretty bad. Flights might even be delayed. This might be one of the biggest cons of winter wedding. You may not know until a day or two before that some guests can’t make it due to travel conditions.
This one’s not necessarily a con. Indoor ceremonies are beautiful, and many couples plan on an indoor ceremony, no matter the weather. But if your heart is set on having an outdoor ceremony, you may have to forego this in the winter. Even if the weather is OK, you may have some guests that are elderly or have underlying health conditions that prevent them from being out in the cold. Although, if you and your guests can swing it, we have worked with couples who had outdoor winter ceremonies that turned out great!
The weather is often unpredictable in the winter. We may be able to go outside for bridal portraits, but it will likely be for a shorter duration than a summer wedding. The same thing goes for any family portraits or bridal party portraits. We’ll have limited time outside, so more things may have to be done indoors. Again, indoor photos can be absolutely beautiful, but you’ll just have less time to be in the gorgeous Montana scenery.
Ok, so we know this one is totally obvious! But some couples really don’t mind the cold, and some can’t stand it! If it’s not for you, then it’s not for you.
Winter is slow season for most wedding venues. But what that means is many venues will offer off-season pricing. Venues often lower their winter prices to encourage more couples to book during those slow months. The same is true for other types of vendors.
Ok, so this isn’t always the case. But most vendors have a lot more availability during the winter months, and so the chances of being able to book your favorite vendors (florists, photographers, venues, etc.) are much higher!
Winter weddings just look a little different. There are so many winter motifs you can weave into your day. You make things warm and cozy, or sleek and elegant. You and your bridesmaids can bundle up with customized wraps or shawls. There are so many options for unique and elegant winter details.
A wedding in the winter sets your wedding apart. The snow turns everything into a winter wonderland and venues just look absolutely magical this time of year (especially if it’s in the mountains!) Your photos will turn out so stunning and it make it a truly memorable day.
